🎄 Fazenda Santa Cruz: Single Origin Christmas Coffee
The Story of Heart, Soil, and Sustainability in Minas Gerais
This Christmas season, we invite you to experience a truly exceptional coffee: our Single Origin Fazenda Santa Cruz Pulped Natural Catuai from the heart of Brazil. This coffee is not just a delicious cup—it represents the vision and hard work of a pioneering family and their deep commitment to ethical, chemical-free farming.
Meet the Producer: Josiani Moraes
Fazenda Santa Cruz, located in the hilly region of Paraguaçu, South of Minas, was transformed from an orange grove into a specialty coffee farm by Giovanni and Josiani Moraes in 1998. Today, the farm is expertly managed by Josiani Moraes, a leader who proudly champions the role of women in Brazil's coffee culture. Her approach is holistic, focusing on continuous quality improvement, investing in employee well-being, and stewarding the 392 hectares of coffee under her care.
The Coffee: Sweetness Meets Balance
This particular lot is a testament to the quality achieved at Fazenda Santa Cruz.
-
Process: Pulped Natural (or 'Honey' process), where the skin is removed but most of the sweet fruit mucilage is left on the bean to dry in the sun. This crucial step infuses the coffee with the rich, creamy sweetness Brazil is famous for.
-
Varietal: Catuai, a high-yielding, flavorful varietal that thrives at the farm's altitude of 990 to 1100 meters.
-
Tasting Notes: Expect a perfectly Clean and Balanced cup featuring comforting notes of Dark Chocolate and Almond, lifted by a festive hint of Citrus Fruits. This profile makes it robust enough for espresso yet complex enough for pour-over brewing.
-
Cup Score: This specialty coffee is rated at a high 84 points.
Sustainability: Beyond Certification
The family's commitment to the environment is central to the Santa Cruz story and has earned them prestigious certifications: UTZ, BSCA, and Rainforest Alliance.
-
Chemical-Free Farming: The farm uses zero chemicals on its crops.
-
On-Farm Fertiliser: They have developed a unique, all-natural fertilizer created on-site from coffee husks and animal waste, providing maximum, sustainable nutrition for the coffee plants.
-
Ecosystem Protection: The entire property is connected by eco-pathways to support local fauna, and a significant reforestation effort has seen over 400,000 native trees planted. They also conserve water through advanced recycling and treatment systems.
By choosing this single-origin coffee, you are supporting a farm that is defining the future of ethical and sustainable specialty coffee in Brazil.
