UGANDA | ZINULE
During a visit to Oslo to meet one of our coffee sourcing partners, we gained interesting information about the current state of specialty coffee in Uganda. The hard work invested in Ugandan specialty coffee has resulted in exceptional coffees and innovative experimental processing methods. With Uganda's significant progress, it would not be surprising for them to become a leading producer of African specialty coffee.
ABOUT THE FARM
Bulambuli, located near the Kenyan border on Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda, is a district with immense potential for specialty coffee. Longstanding partners of our suppliers, Ibero, have developed these coffees and operate the new Bulambuli Washing Station, where they process, pulp, ferment, and dry the lots we purchase. These washed coffees, named after an indigenous bird in the local Lugisu dialect, known as Zinule, are renowned for their sweetness, fragrance, and intensity. The cherries collected from the Bulambuli forest undergo a thorough selection process, and after quality checks, they are either dried on-site or at external drying yards in Mbale town, ensuring expert handling and superior flavours.
