🎵 It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year🎵
The festive season is one of our favourite times of the year at SOMA, and our Christmas coffee is one of our favourite coffees to source each year. There are so many approaches to sourcing a Christmas coffee that is both delicious and seasonal. You can go for something warm and full of winter spices, or comforting and chocolatey (hot chocolate's and Hot Toddy's... what's more seasonal than that). Once again this year, we have a spectacular Christmas coffee. Over the last few years, we leaned into "comfort" as the inspiration for our Christmas coffee, but this year we wanted something a little more exotic.
This coffee was produced by Yesid Costañeda at a farm known as Finca La Delicias. I'm sure you can guess where the farm got its name from - and it is a rightly deserved title too. Yesid is not one to shy away from a challenge when it comes to producing quality coffee. His farm is located on a remote mountainside at 2000 masl. Living at this altitude has its challenges, but the resulting quality from the coffee produced is some of the most exceptional in Colombia. For context, most Colombian farms are between 1200 and 1800 masl. This high altitude, combined with Yesid's expertise, and rich volcanic soil, has provided a near-perfect environment for specialty coffee to be grown.
In the cup, this coffee is an absolute fruitcake (and we don't mean a fruitcake like your goofy uncle John at the Christmas table)! The first thing you'll taste in this coffee is a concoction of Christmas fruit. Think dried cranberries, raisins and sultanas - get the picture? That slowly gives way to this big boozy body that's got a sweet red wine note to it. Lastly, on the finish, there is just a lingering of tropical fruit, not enough to make this coffee a tropical fruit bomb, but enough to make you think "mmmm, that's interesting!". Christmas in a cup! Enjoy this however you want to enjoy your coffee this Christmas - we hope that you'll share some snaps
